Papua New Guinea Peaberry

from $19.00

Light Body

Our newest light bodied coffee is an incredible washed peaberry coffee from Korgua Estates, located on the Kuta Ridge of the Wahgi Valley of Papua New Guinea. Owned by second generation coffee producer, Brian Leahy, Korgua Estates was one of the very first coffee farms in the area. Leahy’s father first explored this area in the 1930s and created Korgua Estates on neutral ground to allow coffee growers from rival tribes to bring their coffees to market without causing disruption. We taste notes of clementine, kiwi, and nutmeg.

What is Peaberry?

The word “peaberry” describes the coffee bean itself, not the variety or origin. Peaberry coffee is a naturally occurring mutation where only one coffee bean develops in the cherry rather than the normal two. These beans tend to be tinier and more round than the average coffee bean, and are also much more dense. Since they are the only bean growing in the cherry, they also tend to be sweeter and more complex than other coffees grabbing all of the sugars and nutrients from the cherry.
