Burundi Bahire
Burundi Bahire
Burundi Bahire returns to our lineup with another stunning harvest from our longtime partners at JNP Coffee, who we have partnred with since 2019. Sourced from the highlands of Ngozi Province in northern Burundi, this coffee is grown by a small community of producers whose dedication to quality shines in every cup. We’ve proudly featured Bahire in years past, and we’re thrilled to welcome this year’s crop back to the roastery.
In Kirundi, “Bahire” is a well wishing that roughly translates to “be well,” a fitting name for a coffee rooted in community, care, and craftsmanship. JNP Coffee, founded by Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian, has become known not only for exceptional Burundian coffees, but also for its deep commitment to empowering women producers and supporting long term sustainability at origin.
This year’s Bahire is a beautifully expressive washed Bourbon with vibrant citrus acidity, layered sweetness, and a silky, tea-like body. Expect notes of candied lemon, brown sugar, stone fruit, and soft floral aromatics, finishing clean and refined with lingering sweetness. The high elevation and volcanic soils of Ngozi Province bring remarkable clarity and structure to the cup, making this one of our favorite returning coffees of the season.
Since 2019, Jeanine and her network of women producers have been a consistent source of extraordinary coffees, and our Cape-based community has come to eagerly anticipate each new release.
