Guatemala: Los Dos Socios

From the exceptional people at Onyx Importers, we are thrilled to announce the long awaited return of Los Dos Socios, a truly spectacular micro lot coffee from the highlands of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. This region is celebrated worldwide for producing some of the country’s most complex and expressive coffees, and Los Dos Socios is a shining example of some of the stunning coffees produced here.

We loved this coffee deeply the first time we offered it. Its nuance, balance, and remarkable quality made a lasting impression on our team and our customers alike. Because of that overwhelming response, we knew we had to bring it back.

Behind this beautiful lot is Don Concepción Villatoro Matias. Don Concepción purchased his first parcel of land in 1990 and immediately devoted it to coffee cultivation. Over the years, driven by a commitment to quality and long term growth, he expanded his farm by acquiring small neighboring plots. Across these lands, he planted classic Central American varietals of Bourbon and Caturra, carefully grown under the filtered shade of Gravilea and Chalum trees. This traditional agroforestry system nurtures the ecosystem while allowing the coffee cherries to mature slowly and develop exceptional flavor.

The name Los Dos Socios, meaning “The Two Partners,” carries deep personal meaning. Don Concepción considers God to be his partner, the essential second socio, in the demanding and rewarding work of caring for his farm and protecting its harvest year after year.

That care and intention come through clearly in the cup. Roasted to a medium profile, this coffee opens with rich dark chocolate and almond, followed by notes of caramel and juicy green grape. The body is balanced and silky, with a smooth, lingering finish that makes it incredibly approachable.
